In a recent meeting, the Environment Public Authority revealed that the Council of Ministers requested realistic solutions to be applied to the stagnant water site in the residential city of Sabah Al-Ahmad. According to the paper, the site still needs the approval of the Ministry of Finance for completion, as there are no financial funds allotted in this regard until the end of last week.
The authority, according to the source, in its capacity as mandated by the Council of Ministers, leads the issue of preserving the environment at the site of the stagnant water, but it has detected a clear failure of the working parties, including those responsible in the follow-up of projects, especially related to water outputs that are not of a degree of purity or have been sufficiently filtered from temporary treatment plants contained in the source.
Moreover, the authority recently measured the percentage of concentrations in stagnant water and found an improvement in its quality, but it is still below the required level, which is considered an infringement on the environment. As a result, the authority recorded the violations and notified the concerned authorities in the country. The authority stressed that the development of the site should be quick, by approving the financial budget allocated to the project and implementing the transfer of stagnant water to the site designated for the construction of the Umm al-Hayman sewage treatment plant, which will serve the city and dispose of water pools.
In addition, the concerned authorities are required to follow up on the work of the temporary treatment plants, ensure their exits, and filter the water according to the required methods to face citizens’ complaints concerning reeking odors and insects, which the Ministry of Health should follow up on the use of appropriate insecticides.
