Social Affairs forms 6 teams to monitor, control charity work

The Undersecretary of the Social Development Sector in the Ministry of Affairs, Salem Al-Rashidi, revealed the formation of 6 monitoring teams to control the process of collecting donations during the holy month of Ramadan and ensuring the money collected reaches the needy people.

Al-Rashidi said this on the sidelines of the first enlightening meeting of the Department of Charity Societies and Charity Associations, which was held by the ministry to familiarize the members of the supervisory teams with the tasks entrusted to them regarding the procedures for collecting donations and its controls, reports a local Arabic daily.

Director of the Charity Societies and Charity Associations Department in the Ministry, Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi, said the tasks assigned to the specialized teams lie in monitoring violations in all its forms (collecting cash and kiosks and deviating from the timetable approved by the Ministry of Awqaf), in addition to “circumvention” operations in the use of Knet.

He explained that “collecting cash is prohibited, whether in mosques or other places, and the distribution of clothing kiosks is also prohibited,” noting that “a number of associations requested to be allowed to collect donations in mosques, and this will be according to a timetable approved by the endowments.”
