Shammar tribe members surrender to security forces

Twenty-seven Kuwaitis belonging to the Shammar tribe surrendered to the police Saturday evening. They were on the police wanted list and had been sentenced in absentia to two years imprisonment for organizing primaries to elect member of the tribe to represent them during the 2029 National Assembly elections.

The sources said some of them had just returned to the country via the Kuwait international airport from Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and others were reportedly hiding inside the country. Those who entered from abroad were arrested upon arrival and referred to the competent authorities.

The sources added that the Court of Cassation will hold a special session on the case early next week, noting that the convicts will ask the court to annul their convictions.
