SC makes great efforts to protect wildlife, birds faced with extinction

The Scientific Center says it protects wildlife and contributes to saving and rehabilitating animals by providing the ideal environment for the reproduction for endangered species especially by adopting the turtle rehabilitation program and saving wild animals from extinction, and rehabilitating them if necessary.

The Al-Jarida daily said, the center also spreads awareness of the importance of protecting wild animals and the heritage of the natural environment in the local and international community.

The center said in a statement that it released many turtles, birds of prey and animals during the past years after its staff worked to treat and rehabilitate them from various injuries and diseases, and called on everyone to protect the local environment and the creatures that live in it and not to expose them or cause any harm to them.

The center pointed out approximately 200 days after the turtles were released and tracked with devices, they reached the Indian coast after covering a distance of nearly 2,000 km, stressing that the program to rehabilitate and preserve these turtles from extinction comes in support of the scientific center’s message calling for attention and preservation of the marine environment.

Speaking of the African penguins, a number of which are present at the Scientific Center, an official indicated that they are among the creatures classified on the list of extinction due to habitat loss, overfishing of their food sources and pollution, as the number of African penguins in the world is estimated at about 14,000 breeding pairs only in the wild, and the center has achieved great success in the re-breeding programs for these penguins and their reproduction in captivity

The center explained that the African penguins laid their eggs in the scientific center and it is expected that the eggs will hatch within weeks.
