Saudi Arabia confirms 3,121 new cases; Qatar reports 1,700 new cases

It has reported the highest single-day increase in coronavirus infections

Saudi Arabia has reported the highest single-day increase in coronavirus infections on Saturday after 3,121 people were found to have been infected with the deadly virus.

This pushes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Kingdom to 98,869, of which 26,402 are active cases; 1,483 patients are believed to be in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Health reported 1,175 new recoveries, raising the overall number of patients recovered in the Kingdom to 71,791.

Saudi Arabia has also announced the highest single-day increase in the death toll since the crisis started; the virus has claimed another 34 lives across the Kingdom, pushing the country’s death toll to 676.

Riyadh continues to lead cities with the most number of infections after 900 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in a single day followed by Jeddah, with 572 new cases; while Mecca, Madinah, Dammam and Hufof reported 278, 170, 149 and 144 cases respectively.

The remaining cases were reported in other cities and provinces of the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia had recently witnessed a downward trend in number of infections but the numbers in the last two days show a reverse trend.

Qatar reports 1,700 new cases

The total coronavirus infections in Qatar has jumped to 67,195 after 1,700 new cases were detected by Ministry of Public Health on Saturday, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the virus has claimed two more lives, pushing the country’s death toll to 51.

Meanwhile, 1,592 COVID-19 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 42,527 cases, while leaving 24,617 active cases under treatment.

The ministry has also revealed it has conducted 5,029 tests in last 24 hours taking the total tests done so far to 251,391 tests.

The ministry affirmed that there has been a small decrease in the number acute COVID-19 positive patients being admitted to intensive care thanks to the measures taken by the Ministry of Public Health and the authorities concerned to limit the spread of the virus, the most important of which is the early detection of the virus which can contribute significantly to reducing the severity of the infection.

The new confirmed cases of infection have been placed under complete isolation in the various medical facilities in the country.The ministry said that the new deaths recorded today were both aged 57 and were suffering from chronic diseases
