Remittance fee tax once again bought up

The Parliamentary Legislative Committee returned to the issue of imposing a tax on foreign remittances, demanding only expatriates pay while citizens are excluded from. The proposal was met with strict government rejection in the previous instance it was bought before the council of ministers.

In its report, which it referred to the National Assembly, the Legislative Committee welcomed the imposition of fees on foreign transfers under the name of tax, but it considered that “the percentage of fees on all transfers should not be the same, excluding citizens and exempting students and domestic workers.”

The government had maintained its rejection of imposing transfer fees on expatriates, on several economic and constitutional grounds.
