Regulations for Kuwaitization of government contracts to boost local employment approved

The Council of Ministers in Kuwait has approved a draft decision to regulate the  Kuwaitization of government contracts, in line with the recommendations of the National Demographics Committee, reported Al-Rai Daily.

The decision obliges all public entities to include the regulation provisions in their contracting requirements to ensure more job opportunities for national cadres in government contract contractors. The move aims to enable them to gain practical experience, develop technical skills, and achieve continuity, development and transition between contracts.

The regulation comes with several benefits. The wage scale for recent university graduates starts at 450 Kuwaiti dinars, and workers can also receive social allowance (employment support), health insurance for the employee and their family, annual salary increases, and bonuses ranging from 20 to 30 Kuwaiti dinars for good performance.

The annual travel ticket for the worker and their spouse, as well as 40 days of paid annual leave, and an annual bonus are also part of the package. The initiative to Kuwaitize government contracts is part of Kuwait’s long-term efforts to promote the employment of its national workforce in the public and private sectors, thereby reducing the country’s reliance on foreign labor while improving the prospects of its citizens.

Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, Chairman of the National Demographics Committee and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has praised the Council of Minister’s decision, terming it a landmark move that will strengthen Kuwait’s workforce while also supporting the country’s economic growth.
