Race for 2023 National Assembly begins

The Elections Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior, will start receiving citizens wishing to contest the 2023 National Assembly elections, scheduled for next June 6, amid expectations of a candidacy momentum, based on the declaration by many of their intentions to compete in the five constituencies.

Last Thursday the Ministry of Interior announced, through the Director General of Legal Affairs, Brigadier General Salah Al-Shatti, that the door for candidacy to elect members of the National Assembly has opened from Friday until the end of the official working hours on May 14, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Shatti explained that the door of the Election Affairs Department will remain open for 10 consecutive days, including holidays, from seven in the morning until one thirty in the afternoon at the Election Affairs Department headquarters in Shuwaikh..

Responsible government sources said the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the concerned state authorities, has prepared an integrated plan to secure the process in the Department of Elections Affairs, and security teams have been allocated to maintain discipline and prevent any actions that would affect the process of receiving candidates and registering their applications.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, has issued a ministerial decision regarding the conditions and controls for media coverage during the entire process.

The decision also prohibits everything that offends the electoral process or the candidates, and that the method of propaganda should not include anything in the form of bribe – gifts, money or promises thereof to win votes or luring citizens to abstain from voting.
