Proposal to establish shelters as shield against nuclear radiation

The Technical Committee in the Municipal Council during its meeting on Wednesday, which was headed by Dr. Hassan Kamal, recommended the approval of the proposal submitted by member M. Alia Al-Farsi regarding protection from nuclear radiation. The proposal included the establishment of shelters with modern, sustainable international specifications that serve all governorates of Kuwait based on the state’s structural plan, with the allocation of land areas to be designated as shelters against nuclear wars, as well as to protect citizens from radioactive contamination.

The proposal stated that the shelters should be distributed thoughtfully and announced with an awareness of the way to use them in cooperation with the General Directorate of Civil Defense and relevant authorities. The proposal also included that the shelters have international specifications within the issuance of the building license, in new investment or commercial buildings and others, so that a certain percentage of the building area is allocated as shelters, most notably with shielding and ventilation methods and techniques.

Kamal said that the committee returned to the executive body the request for the final approval of the regulatory plots project for the unregulated real estate parts in Plot 9 in the Al-Funaitees area within Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, in order to change the location of the electricity transformer in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity.

He indicated that the committee kept on its agenda the proposal submitted by the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Abdullah Al-Mahri, regarding the requirements and specifications for residential complexes for labour, and the letter submitted by the concerned person regarding the annexation of part of the backyard adjacent to his plot in the Hawally area 66, plot 8, was referred to the executive body for study. The official stated that the committee approved the request of the concerned person to add the land belonging to the state and adjacent to the plot in Mangaf area, plot 54.
