Personal belongings to be returned after detention period

Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs, Lieutenant General Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf, has issued clear directives to all police outposts and detention center on the handling of detainees and their personal belongings.

The directive followed a scathing report by the General Administration of Control and Inspection at the Ministry of Interior on conditions at police stations and detention centers. In a bid to increase the discipline and prevent law violations and abuses taking place in police stations,

Instructions have been issued to the security directors of the six governorates that the belongings of detainees who have been released from prison and transferred to the deportation center should be handed over to them.

It had been reported that a large number of items belonging to deported detainees, including over 1,000 mobile phones, have accumulated at various police stations and deportation centers.

On another note, instructions have also been given that forbid patrol cars from moving out of their designated provinces, so as to prevent police chases that sometimes end in loss of life of innocent bystanders. While separate orders have been issued to arrest those found begging and immediately refer them to the deportation centers.
