PAY embarks on beach cleaning campaign early November

The Public Authority for Youth announced the launch of the national campaign to clean the beaches from the beginning of next November and will continue until February 2023 under the supervision of the Kuwaiti diving team.

Director of the Voluntary Work Department at the authority, Waleed Al-Ansari, said in a press statement, Saturday, that the campaign includes carrying out dozens of campaigns to clean the coasts of Kuwait with voluntary community participation, and to remove a lot of plastic waste and neglected fishing nets from the country’s coasts, reports a local Arabic daily.

Al-Ansari added that this national campaign is a unique opportunity for voluntary work in the State of Kuwait and the availability of voluntary opportunities for Kuwaiti youth wishing to contribute to voluntary environmental campaigns.

He called on young volunteers wishing to participate in the campaign to register on the authority’s website through the “Our Hands” portal.

He also called on government schools at the primary stage to participate in the campaign to enrich the cultural and environmental awareness of school students.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Volunteer Foundation, Walid Al-Fadhel, said the diving team has prepared an interesting cultural program to be presented to the participating school students and within field and practical roles to consolidate the love of volunteer work and active participation.

Al-Fadhel explained that this initiative is among the many projects undertaken by the team to protect the marine environment, secure the shipping lanes and save marine life through operations represented in the removal of waste such as discarded fishing nets, rubble, plastic waste, wood, bottles and tires, due to the pollution they cause to the marine environment, danger to sea-goers and an obstacle to the navigational lanes.

He stated that the campaign seeks to spread environmental awareness to preserve natural wealth through mobile awareness campaigns that contribute to raising environmental awareness of the community in general.

He indicated that the initiative of the National Project for the Protection of the Kuwaiti Marine Environment is continuing to clean Kuwaiti beaches and islands in order to remove these harmful wastes and educate sea-goers and fishermen about the need to take care of the marine environment.
