PAM to inspect labour housing facilities

The Occupational Safety Center of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has started inspecting the number of labor accommodations belonging to private companies in preparation for the next step of ensuring they adhere to the conditions of security and safety in terms of space in the rooms and number of people living in each room, Al- Anba Arabic daily reported yesterday.

The paper disclosed that the procedure was being carried out based on directives of PAM’s Director General Ahmed Al-Mousa and the Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Protection Sector Dr Mubarak Al-Jafour.

The inspections will start with accommodations in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The center had previously warned more than 21 private companies in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh with government contracts to abide by the conditions required for labor housing. Based on the instructions, the center will inspect the governmental housing in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Mahboula and Farwaniya areas to check up on the housing of the labor force in the first phase, and gradually extend to other parts of the country.

On the other hand, Deputy Director General for Manpower Protection Affairs Dr. Mubarak Al-Jafour announced that the contract of the company whose workers live in Mahboula accommodation was suspended after the workers living there were put in quarantine. He explained that PAM carried out several awareness campaigns for the workers since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.
Awareness messages were sent out in all languages to workers and letters were sent to business owners about the need to adhere to the Cabinet’s decisions and Ministry of Health’s instructions to curb the spread of the epidemic. Dr. Al-Jafour reiterated that the authority’s inspection teams are working around the clock, in coordination with all government agencies deployed in all governorates, and have been touring various areas to ensure compliance with the Cabinet’s decisions.
