PAI to identify goals and initiatives for urban expansion for industrial sectors

The Public Authority for Industry said it is currently working on a draft for national industrial strategy for the State of Kuwait until 2035 in cooperation with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), an organization under the umbrella of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries whose headquarters is in Doha, Qatar.

The Al-Qabas daily has learned that a specialized working team includes members from both parties. The team will work to prepare this strategy in a manner that is consistent with Kuwait Vision 2035, and integrates with other national industrial sector strategies.

The strategy will also take into account the international and regional trends and industrial technical developments. The study will include identifying goals and initiatives that the concerned authorities in the industrial development will implement.

In a letter addressed to the Kuwait Municipality, PAI said among the axes of this strategy is a study of urban expansion policies for the industrial sectors in the State of Kuwait, the mechanisms used in allocating and distributing industrial plots, and storage locations, in addition to analyzing the structure of procedures for obtaining the necessary licenses for the establishment of industrial facilities.

The authority has asked the municipality to provide the organization with the strategy for the industrial zones, and any studies or analyzes recently carried out by the municipality and related to the Kuwaiti industrial sector.

The nine questions related to waste recycling activity and the projects sector that the municipality needs to answer are:

— What is the role of the municipality in dealing with industrial waste?

— Is there coordination between the municipality and the Public Authority for Industry regarding the distribution of plots and the allocation of sites?

— Is there an overlap between the activities of the Public Authority for Industry and the activities of the municipality in monitoring?

— Are there any restrictions on the current industrial zones in terms of urban expansion?

— Are there directions to allow the industrial sector to obtain a larger share of vouchers or storage sites, if the need arises?

— What is the control mechanism adopted by the municipality to prevent abuses in the industrial sector?

— Is there an overlap between the activities of the municipality and the Environment Public Authority?

— What is the percentage of completing the municipality’s transactions automation (such as issuing building permits for industrial facilities)?

— Are there any directions for concluding partnership agreements between the municipality and industrial companies in the private sector, similar to the agreement concluded with “Kuwait Cement” regarding the conversion of solid waste into environmental fuel?
