PADA makes is easier to issue ‘disability’ certificates

The Director of the Public Authority for Disabilities People, Dr. Bibi Al-Amiri has spoken of the new mechanism to issue certificates for the people with disabilities saying it is divided into two parts, the first is concerned with renewal and the second is about issuing (new) certificates for the first time, and we aim through it to make it easier for the disabled people and their families, especially cases that do not need to be re-evaluated by the specialized medical committees.

Dr. Al-Amiri said there are a very large number of cases of people with disabilities who are candidates for lifelong certificates, due to the lack of any changes regarding their disabilities for a long time and the poor prospects for their recovery, pointing out that it has been proven that there is no need to re-evaluate these cases, which reduces the burden for the work of the medical committees reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Amiri told the daily that after the adoption of the new mechanism for certificates, all dates for renewal cases were removed from the schedules of the sub-medical committees, indicating that about 50 percent of the cases that were presented to these committees were related to renewal, and this is tantamount to increasing the work of the committees by 100 percent, especially for children and the elderly.

This is in addition to allowing the authority to redistribute doctors to committees according to the intensity of the work of each of them.

On the reassessment of cases Dr Al-Amiri pointed out that with regard to re-evaluation of cases of people with disabilities, their certificates will be automatically renewed for 5 years or for life, according to the type and degree of disability and through specialized technical medical committees, for people over 21 years old, and added as for the disabled under 21 years old, they will be re-evaluated every 5 years given the possibility of changing the degree of their disabilities to a higher level (from simple to moderate, and from moderate to severe).

She affirmed she is keen to find ways to improve all services provided to people with disabilities, and to harness all capabilities in order to achieve this, stressing that the Disability Authority in all its sectors is working to overcome the obstacles facing the disabled and their families.
