On January 20, 2023, customs men at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing managed to seize a large quantity of assorted cigarettes — more than 38,000 cartons.
The director of the customs department at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, Sami Al-Sharaf, said a 13-meter “refrigerator” truck arrived at the Nuwaiseeb port on its way to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it the bill of lading said it contained household ‘items’ but the inspectors suspected the cargo and during inspection found 768 boxes of cigarettes hidden behind the cargo each containing 50 cigarette cartons.
The suspect, an Arab man, has been arrested and referred to the competent authorities.
