Director of the Air Transport Department at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Abdullah Al-Rajhi, revealed the details of the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic on passenger traffic at Kuwait International Airport(KIA) during the past year. Around 3.875 million passengers traveled through KIA in 2020 compared to 15.448 million in 2019, the number of passengers decreased by around 11.57 million. While the number of flights also decreased by more than 74,000, Al-Rai reported.

Al-Rajhi said, in an interview with the daily that DGCA was informed by 18 travel and tourism companies to stop their businesses due to the disruption of air traffic and travel. The number of companies operating at Kuwait Airport also decreased from 52 to 47 companies.

He stressed that the airport is innocent of the accusations that it caused an increase in the number of Coronavirus infections, especially as it is subject to strict precautionary health measures.
