No new sites designated to increase storage facilities: Municipality

The Kuwait Municipality stated allocating new storage lands must be a reflection of the strategic plan for the future industrial development of the country, and accordingly “we inform you that there are sites designated for storage purposes for various parties, including the Ministry of Finance.

In a paper prepared by the Municipality on storage lands, sources revealed that the total storage area in Kuwait is 21.8 km2, which exceeds the total storage area recommended by the Third Structural Plan until 2030, reports a local Arabic daily.

The municipality confirmed that the increase in storage sites negatively affects the industrial development strategy in the country, noting the importance of compensating for the shortage in public and light industries, crafts, workshops and small industries.

The municipality indicated that a site was allocated to establish warehouses for strategic commodities and monthly needs for the Ministry of Social Affairs (Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies) in Sulaibiya the first industrial area on an area of 6000 square meters, and public car sites were provided with an area of 7210 square meters, and a storage site was allocated with an area of 6000 square meters in the Sulaibiya industrial area and in the Jahra Governorate for the Ministry of Social Affairs to set up warehouses for strategic commodities.

It stated that it was approved to allocate a site with an area of 60,000 square meters to construct warehouses for the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs in in Ardhiya.

The sources further pointed out that a storage site with an area of 163,600 square meters is available in plot 10 in the Sabhan Industrial Zone to establish the following health services: (a building for central medical warehouses, a building for the Ministry’s general stores, a building for the Ministry’s garage, an ambulance building, and a central workshop for the maintenance of medical devices and equipment, and a temporary site with an area of 14,000 square meters within the Al-Sabah health area to be a temporary storage facility for storing equipment and devices for the projects of the Ministry of Health.

The municipality added that storage sites have been allocated to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, according to the following:

■ A site with an area of 6 sq km in Arifjan, according to the decision of the committee assigned to carry out the functions of the Municipal Council.

■ A site with an area of 4 sq km in Al-Naayem area, according to the decision of the committee assigned to carry out the functions of the Municipal Council.

It stated that storage sites have been allocated to the Public Authority for Industry, according to the following:

■ Allocating a storage site with an area of one million square meters in the Kabd area (east of the road) in Al-Ahmadi Governorate, for the Public Authority for Industry.

■ Site No. 10 in Mina Abdullah area, with an area of 497,500 square meters, and is used as a storage plot area, noting that the site includes 109 plots of different sizes.

■ It was approved to allocate an area of approximately 491,235.15 square meters for storage purposes, according to its actual area when installed on the ground, within the public facilities at Site No. 17 in Mina Abdullah.

■ A site has also been allocated as customs warehouses and storage with an area of 5.46 km2 in Abdali, Jahra Governorate, for the General Authority for Investment, according to Municipal Council Resolution No. (MB / LG 5/245/18/2014) taken on 11/24/2014.
