Nepal marks 50 years of diplomatic relations with Kuwait

Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Sami Al-Hamad, praised the Kuwaiti-Nepalese relations, pointing to the desire of both sides to develop them, as there are discussions between officials of the two countries in this regard.

Al-Hamad said in a statement to a local Arabic daily on the sidelines of his participation in the Nepalese embassy’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries that the Nepalese community in Kuwait is diverse and contributes to the country’s development, reports a local Arabic daily.

Nepal’s ambassador to Kuwait, Durga Prasad Bhandari, highlighted the development of bilateral relations between his country and Kuwait in the past fifty years, pointing out that some major projects in Nepal are funded by the Kuwait Fund for Development, within the framework of soft loan arrangements since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He added these projects focus mainly on energy and agriculture, pointing out that Kuwait has remained an important destination for Nepalese migrant workers.

He stated that the Nepalese working in Kuwait contribute greatly to the economy of Kuwait, and greatly help in strengthening friendly relations at the grassroots level.

He referred to the new development in the field of air links between Nepal and Kuwait in 2022, pointing out that two important cities in Nepal are connected to Kuwait City with direct flights, operated by three different airlines.

He added that Jazeera Airways started direct flights from Kuwait International Airport to Gautam Buddha International Airport and Nepalese Bhirahwa in May 2022, while the Nepalese Himalaya Airlines started a direct flight between Kathmandu and Kuwait in July this year, indicating that these new developments in the Civil aviation sector will further contribute to strengthening relations in the field of trade, travel and tourism between the two countries.
