Assistant Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature and Director General of the Kuwait National Library, Dr. Sultan Al-Daihani, inaugurated Monday, the Ishbiliya Public Library, in conjunction with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Library.
After the inauguration, which includes more than 15,000 diverse books, and the opening of the special exhibition of the rare manuscripts of the Al-Ahlia Library, Al-Daihani said that this event falls within the activities of the 28th Al-Qurain Cultural Festival, which started yesterday, stressing that the Al-Ahlia Library is the first nucleus of the National Library of Kuwait and the various public libraries in the country.
He stated that the National Council aims, by organizing such an event, to highlight the importance of public libraries in the country as a cultural center that provides information, in addition to organizing lectures, seminars and holding cultural exhibitions to interact with the masses and enrich knowledge and science.
It is noteworthy that the Al-Ahlia Library began its journey on January 23, 1923, and the credit for its establishment goes back to the founders, Sheikh Yusuf bin Issa Al-Qinai, Abdul Hamid Al-Sanea and Sultan Al-Kulaib. Its name has been changed to (Kuwait National Library) since 1994 to confirm the continuation of the march of culture and literature in Kuwait.
