Mustapha Adib named Lebanon PM-designate

Mustapha Adib

Mustapha Adib will be tasked with forming Lebanon’s new government after being appointed prime minister-designate, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Monday. During the binding parliamentary consultations that Aoun conducted, Adib received 90 votes from MPs who nominated him to form the new government. Since 2013, Adib has served as Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany and holds a doctorate in law and political science. The president said in a media statement that the decision came after Aoun consulted with the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

“There is no time for talk, promises and wishes. It is a time for action,” Adib said in a speech after being appointed. He added that he will succeed in selecting a ministerial work team of competent people and that the government should be formed “very quickly.”
