The Kuwait Municipality said the issue of new temporary site for tents market will be resolved within 48 hours in coordination with the Ministry of Finance until the completion of a permanent site in Jahra is readied.
A local Arabic daily said this came after several owners of companies selling tents organized a vigil in the market to protest against the decision to remove it.
The source said “there is no going back on the decision to remove the market at the time specified by the Municipality, especially since all investors were informed of the decision in advance,” indicating that a decision was issued in the past to form a work team to take the measures to remove the market from its current location.
In this regard a working mechanism was established to remove the tent market based on the recommendations of the impartial fact-finding committee to discuss the causes of a fire in the tent market, and addressing all authorities and administrative levels in and outside the municipality to facilitate the tasks of the joint committee regarding the removal of the tent market, and studying all documents related to the tent market and take the necessary measures in coordination with the necessary concerned authorities.
The source explained that the committee took its decisions to remove the market based on approvals issued by the Fatwa and Legislation Department in coordination with the legal department in the municipality, at the request of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD).”
The source added, “The alternative location specified for the tent market will be in Jahra, but it will be offered by the BOT system through investment, as part of an integrated project that conforms to the requirements of the DGFD.
