Municipal Council proposes to regulate construction of bus stops

Municipal Council member, Sharifa Al-Shalfan, submitted a proposal regarding the drafting of the requirements and specifications for bus waiting stations’ building regulations. The official specified in the proposal submitted to Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Mahri that the table of requirements and specifications includes the classification of types of bus stops according to population densities, methods of determining locations and distances between stops, the maximum height of the waiting station, and lighting standards, the minimum number of seats, and the minimum seat load.

According to a report by Al-Jarida newspaper, Al-Shalfan said that the requirements table also includes standards for indicative billboards, commercial billboards, wastebaskets, accessibility for people with disabilities, the application of the Kuwaiti code for general design approved by the Public Authority for People with Disabilities, and standards in line with the concepts of sustainability and green infrastructure. He also stressed the coordination with the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, public transport companies, and other concerned parties.

Al-Shalfan added that the general structural plan includes contributing to raising the level of quality of life of the public through several objectives, including providing multiple means of transportation, especially the improvement of the mass transit system, in which bus waiting stations are an integral part.
