Moonsighting committee: Ramadan to start on Monday in Kuwait

Kuwait’s Moonsighting Committee has announced that Sunday will be the last day of the lunar month of Sha’ban and that therefore the holy fasting month of Ramadan will start on Monday.

Ramadan’s crescent has not been sighted today, so tomorrow (Sunday) will be the last day of Sha’aban, Chairman of the Moonsighting Committee Justice Yousef Al-Mutawaa stated after the committee meeting on Saturday’s evening.Consequently, Ramadan of the Hijri or Islamic calendar of 1440 will commence on Monday May 6, he pointed out.

Sha’ban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the last lunar month before Ramadan, and so Muslims determine in it when the first day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan will be.

On this dear occasion, Justice Al-Mutawaa, also head of Kuwait’s Supreme Judiciary Council, Cassation Court and Constitutional Court, congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s political leadership, nationals and residents as well as the whole Arab and Muslim worlds.

Minister of Justice and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Fahad Al-Afasi also greeted His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s political leadership, nationals and residents as well as the Arab and Muslim nations on the start of Ramadan.
