MoH: Success of first Heart Transplant on a female citizen

The Ministry of Health announced the success of the first heart transplant that was performed for a Kuwaiti citizen, who was suffering from advanced heart failure and was not responding to treatment.

The ministry said that this is a new medical achievement, which came amid careful medical preparation and procedures, and the operation, which is the second heart transplant in the country and the first for a Kuwaiti citizen was performed by a “Kuwaiti-Saudi” medical team, Professor Riyad Al-Tarzi, in cooperation with a consultant heart surgeon and heart transplant. In King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Saudi Arabia, Dr. Firas Khalil.

This came in joint work with the team in the Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Program at the Salman Al-Dabbous Center, headed by Dr. Khaldoun Al-Hamoud, the anesthesia team, the nursing staff, the clinical pharmacist, the Immunology Department, and the Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Department. In this regard, the Ministry also appreciates the efforts of all those in charge of the organ transplantation program Kuwait, reported by a local daily.
