The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has taken proactive measures to alleviate electricity load issues anticipated in the upcoming summer season to prevent potential shortages and had previously urged factories to halt operations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Informed ministry sources told Al-Rai daily, that the ministry, specifically the customer services sector, initiated a field survey of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Awqaf (mosques) as part of preparations for the installation of smart electricity meters in these locations.
The objective is to enable the ministry to regulate load reduction during peak hours in educational institutions and ministry mosques emphasizing the significance of installing smart meters in these facilities before summer which will substantially contribute to lowering current consumption rates.
Additionally, the sources indicated that the ministry plans to resume installing smart meters in factories, aiming to cover all industrial establishments across the country. The customer services sector has already installed over 1,000 smart meters in various factories. The spokesperson highlighted that the ministry had previously advocated for adjusting factory working hours to avoid peak periods from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the intention of mitigating load during this timeframe.
Furthermore, the spokesperson emphasized the existence of multiple proposals within different sectors of the ministry. If implemented, these proposals could play a crucial role in reducing electrical loads during the upcoming summer seasons.
Reflecting on past challenges, the spokesperson mentioned a previous stagnation in electricity production projects at both the ministry and Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority levels. However, there has been recent progress in the latter’s electrical and water projects, marking a positive development.
