MEW has sufficient stock of wooden poles; ban on exports will not affect Kuwait

The Ministry of Electricity and Water sources said Russia and Ukraine have stopped exporting timber to countries around the world, including Kuwait, for various reasons, including what is related to the Corona pandemic, which the ministry uses as wooden poles for power supply to remote border areas.

However, Al-Jarida has learned, the Ministry of Electricity has a good enough stock of wooden poles although plans are underway to use metal columns in those remote areas after they have proven their efficiency.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Electricity has obtained the approval of the Central Agency for Public Tenders to float a tender for the supply and installation of combined gas turbine units to increase the electric power at the Subbiya station by 900 megawatts.

PART has set March 8 as the last date for submitting bids. The sources pointed out that this is one of the important and urgent projects on which the ministry depends to increase its strategic stock of electricity to meet the annual demand due to urban expansion in the country. The current production, the ministry said, is about 18,600 megawatts.
