Meta developing new, more powerful system for AI

Meta Platforms is developing a new AI system that aims to be as powerful as the most advanced model offered by OpenAI, a nonprofit AI research organization, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The newspaper said in its yesterday’s issue that the parent company of Facebook aims to have the new artificial intelligence model ready next year. It added that it would be several times more powerful than its commercial version, dubbed Llama 2, reports Al-Rai daily.

Llama 2 is a large language model for artificial intelligence based on the open source system, which was launched by Meta in July.

The planned system, which is still expected to see changes, will help other companies build services that produce sophisticated text, analytics and other output, the Wall Street Journal said.

The newspaper added in its report that Meta expects to begin training on the new artificial intelligence system known as the Grand Linguistic Model in early 2004. Meta has not yet responded to Reuters’ request to comment on the report.
