Launch of fourth virtual telecom network to begin operation ‘soon’

Head of the Communications Sector at the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) Amer Hayat said there is a cooperation between “STC” and Virgin Mobile Middle East and Africa (VMMEA), to launch the Virtual Mobile Communication Network (MVNO) in Kuwait.

Al-Anba quoting sources said the fourth virtual communication network has been given the nod by the licensing authority and according to the numbering plan, the phone numbers will begin with 41. The network is expected to begin operations from the first quarter of this year.

On the issue of the disconnection in the marine internet cable, Hayat explained, in an exclusive statement to Al-Anba, that the disconnection in the cable happened two ways — from Iraq and Dubai, pointing out that what affects Kuwait is the disconnection on the Iraq and Iran side, and it is outside Kuwait’s territorial waters.

With regard to the expected duration of repairing this malfunction, he said that it may take between 4 and 6 weeks until the ship arrives and finds out the location, stressing that it is a complex and not simple process.

He pointed out that the authority had provided alternative lines to cover approximately 85% of the network to operate normally before the cut, as the capacities on the affected Falcon cable were removed and transferred to other lines available and located in Kuwait.
