Palestinian Embassy in Kuwait held a gathering at the embassy premises to highlight the shortcomings and protest the ‘Deal of the Century’ proposed recently by US President Donald Trump. Several members of the diplomatic corps, heads of diplomatic missions, a number of clerics and representatives of public societies participated in the event.
In his address to the gathering, the Palestinian Ambassador to Kuwait Rami Tahboub expressed deep gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for lending his support to the Palestine cause and its calls for the right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He emphasized that the Palestinians’ struggle to gain their legitimate rights in full has the unqualified support of Kuwait.
The Palestinian diplomat noted that this supportive stance was evident in the speech delivered by Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanem, at the 30th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union that was held recently in Jordan. During the conference, Arab lawmakers rejected “the US plan for peace in the Middle East”. “Similarly, the foreign ministers of the sisterly Arab countries have expressed, during their emergency meeting in Cairo last week, unanimous opposition to the US plan and any attempts to liquidate the Palestine cause,” remarked the ambassador.
“The principled stance of Arab countries, as well as the those adopted by foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during their recent meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, provide a firm backing for the Palestinian’s future moves at the UN Security Council,” he stressed. The Palestinian diplomat also lauded the decision adopted by the African Union summit in Addis Ababa to reject the US plan.
In her speech on behalf of Kuwaiti women, Lulwa Al Mulla, the Vice-President of Women’s Cultural and Social Society stated that the Palestinian issue is the cause of the entire Arab nation, and Kuwaitis firmly reject this disastrous deal, which is a major crime against Palestine and its people. Al-Mulla stressed that this deal is an infringement on the historical rights of the Arab people in Palestine and a violation of all international covenants and treaties.
For his part, the Jordanian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Saqr Abu Shattal, affirmed his country’s permanent support for the Palestinian people and its non-acceptance of any solution except a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Similarly, the Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Abdul Ahad Mbacké, affirmed that all of Africa supports the just Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, and this was evident at the African Summit in Addis Ababa recently.
