Kuwait-Riyadh train project moves in right direction

The rapid rail link project between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia kicked off yesterday, as the Ministry of Works chaired a meeting with government agencies, including the ministries of Finance, Electricity and Water, Defense, Oil, and Kuwait Municipality, to complete the procedures related to the project.

Informed sources told Al-Qabas that the link will be via a high-speed train, or the so-called magnetic train or “bullet train”, between Kuwait and the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The sources added that the advisory study for the project will take 6 months, in preparation for starting the implementation of the project, and it is expected that a joint agreement will be signed between the two countries in the coming days.

The ministry said in its letter during yesterday’s meeting, of which Al-Qabas obtained a copy, “Given the importance of the strategic agreement on the railway linkage project, it is necessary to expedite coordination between the competent authorities to remove any obstacles or obstacles that may hinder the project.” The letter indicated the importance of facilitating the procedures taken regarding the project in order to speed up its completion.

The Saudi Council of Ministers had approved, in its meeting on May 23, authorizing the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services or his representative to discuss with the Kuwaiti side a draft agreement between the governments of the two countries regarding the railway link project between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
