Kuwait records highest electricity consumption on July 20

The electrical load index recorded the highest electricity consumption number in the country’s history yesterday with 14,778 megawatts, surpassing the peak of 14,700 megawatts recorded last year, Al Qabas daily. This put the Ministry of Electricity on alert, as there are fears of the impact of high temperatures on the network that could spell trouble under the pressure of increased consumption.

A source in the ministry said to the daily that electricity output is nonetheless able to meet any energy demands, and that consumption is still below the expected maximum for this year of 15,600 MW. In another context, the smart meter tender is still facing obstacles in the way of its award in preparation for the start of supplying and installing the meters, which is the step that electricity has been relying on in a great way to organize the consumption process and to reach accurate numbers. In addition to the possibility of collecting the Ministry’s dues completely without delay.
