Kuwait public workers to face penalty for flouting Covid-19 measures

Kuwait’s public workers risk facing disciplinary action if they fail to comply with precautionary measures aiming to squelch the spread of the coronavirus, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said on Thursday.

The CSC notice comes a day after Kuwaitآ‘s government said it would tighten restrictions on public gatherings starting next week in response to a spike in COVID-19 infection rates, the body said in a statement. It is incumbent upon public employees to adhere to the previously outlined safety measures, which constitutes “proper workplace etiquette,” the statement highlighted, warning of stiff penalties for non-compliance.

First-time violators will receive a warning, while a second infraction will be met with a deduction of a dayآ‘s worth of pay from the monthly salary, the statement clarified, adding that repeat violations face up to a 15-day pay cut. It went on to urge public bodies to further enforce workplace safety rules, calling for additional steps to protect workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
