Kuwait moves to build biggest international center for petroleum research by end 2022

The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation is moving forward with its plan to establish the biggest international center for petroleum research which is expected to begin in late 2022 and to be operational at the end of the fiscal year 2025/2026.

A local Arabic daily has learned from senior oil sources that the detailed plan of the center and the tender documents have been completed and are in the process of taking approval from the concerned authorities.

This is the desire of the oil sector to establish a center par excellence in the fields of research, development and technology in the oil sector, and to overcome the technological challenges faced by Kuwait in its most important sectors, which is the oil sector which requires the institution to deal with it in the future in order to be able to achieve the oil sector’s long-term strategic directions in the field of technology and research.

The establishment of the center aims to create an encouraging work environment for research and scientific work and to build and develop national capabilities and national workforce to meet technological and technical challenges.

It is worth noting that the center will be established on 250,800 square meters area of in the northeast of Ahmadi city, and will include 28 technology laboratories and more than 300 modern scientific equipments in addition to a conference center to accommodate between 400 and 600 participants.

Among the technological solutions that the center will provide are the production and refining of heavy oil, the development and production of non-associated gas, improving production methods and enhancing refining capabilities, and supporting integrated refining and petrochemical operations at the local and global levels, in addition to identifying advanced technical capabilities and the performance of workers in a safe and clean environment.
