Kuwait moved 7 places up in the Global Corruption Perceptions Index

Transparency International has released its annual Global Corruption Perceptions Index 2020 report. The report showed that Kuwait has advanced 7  places internationally to come on 78th place for the year 2020, Al Qabas daily reported.

Last year, Kuwait was ranked 85 last year out of 180 countries and it is ranked 7th in the Arab world. Kuwait scored 42 out of 100 in the 2020 index, two points more than last year, in which it scored 40.

The head of the Kuwaiti Transparency Society, Majed Al-Mutairi, revealed that the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2020 showed that corruption has weakened the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and threatened the global recovery.

He also told the daily that, this year the index focused on the transparency of countries in dealing with the pandemic, as well as democracy. He added, “Kuwait was evaluated according to (6) sources, and the improvement in the general ranking of the State of Kuwait is due to its high (9) degrees in the V-Dem index, the types of democracy index, where it got 50%.”
