Kuwait minister of commerce acknowledges MPs’ grilling right

Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan has affirmed that MPs enjoy supervisory powers namely the “genuine” right of interpolating the executive authority.

Minister Al-Roudhan was speaking to journalists on sidelines of Tuesday’s parliamentary session, during which MPs Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie and Mubarak Al-Hajraf submitted a grilling motion against him to National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim.Minister Al-Roudhan has affirmed that he will “deal with the interpellation according constitutional frameworks.”

Article 100 of the Kuwaiti Constitution stipulates that any member of the parliament enjoys the right to grill the prime minister and and ministers regarding issues within their jurisdictions.

The two legislators are seeking to question Minister Al-Roudhan over alleged illegal acts, misappropriation of public funds, administrative and financial irregularities and lack of oversight at the ministry of commerce.

Other charges stipulate, “mishandling” of civil servants’ rights, discouraging skilled national cadres, rampant nepotism at all authorities under the minister’s supervision, disobeying instructions by the Audit Bureau, failure to cooperate with the bureau and misleading it, concealing data and documents and failing to collect overdue debts for the state.
