A pair of Kuwaiti ministers who will be questioned by lawmakers over alleged irregularities have requested a delay in proceedings, as the Gulf country’s parliament opened for a new term on Tuesday. Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Dr. Jenan Ramadan, along with Finance Minister Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, both asked to put off their respective grillings until November 12.
As per Kuwaiti parliamentary procedure, “both ministers have requested a two-week delay” in their grilling by MPs, chief lawmaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim said amid Tuesday’s session. Blaming Ramadan for “abuse of power and mismanagement,” MP Omar Al-Tabtabie lodged a grilling motion against her, accusing the minister of “squandering public funds and obstructing national development plans.”
Meanwhile, Al-Hajraf has been targeted by MP Mohammad Hayef for alleged wrongdoings as well, saying the minister has “violated national laws.” His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opened Tuesday the fourth ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 15th legislative term.
