Kuwait keen to alleviate Muslims’ woes – FM

Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah during the 46th meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers.

Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al­Hamad Al­Sabah said on Friday his country is eager to lift the suffering of illfated Muslims and to find peaceful solutions to all OIC issues. Sheikh Sabah Al­Khaled made the remark during the 46th meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers held in Abu Dhabi today.

He said the gathering conincides with the 50th anniversary of the OIC, which was created in 1969 following the blazing of Al­Aqsa Mosque, urging everyone to capitalize on this occasion to review the body’s achievements.

Politically, critical and significant issues still receive mixed positions during international gatherings, he said, citing the UN General Assembly’s recent vote on Jerusalem­bearing resolution.

Economically, more efforts need to be exerted in order to boost trade and economic exchange with a view to notching up effective integration for creating an economic force that could play a key role in an economically changeable world, the Kuwaiti minister said.

He went on to say that today’s message should fulfill the expectations of Muslim people and tackle ongoing developments and swift changes, eventually serving the interest of the Muslim world.

“It is our duty to call on you to achieve this integration by means of taking the organization and its work up to a stage that could promote its international presence and weight,” he noted.

He underlined the significance of commitment to the principles of international law that regulates relations among states in line with the OIC charter, including good­neighborliness, noninterference in others’ internal affairs, respect of states’ sovereignty and compliance with international conventions and treaties in order to resolve all differences by peaceful means.

Sheikh Sabah Al­Khaled emphasized that Kuwait, through its non­permanent UNSC membership, would leave no stone unturned to deliver the message of the tolerant religion of Islam and its noble value, urging all OIC member states to work together to achieve the OIC’s goals.

He voiced gratitude to the UAE for hosting this gathering and hospitability and OIC SecretaryGeneral Yousef Al­Othaimeen’s efforts for organizing the event. Sheikh Sabah Al­Khaled is leading Kuwait’s delegation partaking in the OIC event in Abu Dhabi.
