Kuwait first Arab country keen on youth development

The Director General of the Public Authority for Youth, Dr. Mishaal Al-Shaheen, said he is keen to support and nurture the ideas of Kuwaiti youth that contribute to protecting the environment and reducing consumption rates as an essential part of sustainable development.

This came in a speech during a panel discussion entitled “Developing Creative Human Capital”, which was held on the sidelines of the First National Urban Forum of Kuwait under the slogan “Partners in Sustainable Urban Development” organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and development, reports a local Arabic daily.

Al-Shaheen stated that the authority’s role in developing human capital comes within the “New Kuwait 2035” vision, and is represented in the implementation of 14 projects related to several fields, including development, employment, environment, technology, renewable energy and sports, pointing to the inclusion of seven of these projects in the government’s work program.

He stated that Kuwait occupies the first place in the Arab world in the field of youth development and the 27th globally, pointing to the possibility of reaching the first place globally due to the great capabilities and potentials of Kuwaiti youth and the material and moral support provided by the government to them.

He referred to the environmental project in which high school students participated in the recycling of leaves to be planted again as plants that support the urban environment, stressing the authority’s keenness to support such ideas to see the light and be an essential tributary of sustainable development.

In turn, the head of the mission of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) for the Arab Gulf states to Kuwait, Dr. Amira El-Hassan said the forum aims to review progress made with regard to Kuwait’s strategy in implementing the sustainable development goals.

Al-Hassan added that the forum also aims to focus on the work carried out by the State of Kuwait in the new urban plan, noting that it is a global plan that is renewed every 20 years starting in 2016.
