Kuwait expected to face domestic workers crisis in Ramadan

The head of the Kuwaiti Union for the Recruitment of Domestic Workers, Khaled Al-Dakhnan, said the government of the Philippines stopping the export of its domestic workers to Kuwait is an expected decision in recent times, especially in light of the successive problems that workers from this category suffer from without actual solutions on the ground by the concerned authorities.

The head of the federation told Al-Anba that the recent murder was one of the main reasons for the moratorium decision, but it is not the only reason for that, noting that the Philippine embassy recently expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the accumulation of domestic workers inside its building saying there are approximately 485 domestic workers who suffer from problems with their employers but no quick solutions have been offered.

Al-Dakhnan said the Federation had repeatedly appealed to the Department of Domestic Labor to solve the problems of this labor but nothing has been done in this regard.

He continued, saying: “Unfortunately, in these cases, the labor office is not summoned to attend the investigation, while it is summoned only at the time of paying the workers travel tickets, while the Kuwaiti office, in solidarity with the Philippine office, bears the losses represented in the rest of the value of the “two-year contract” concluded between the employer and the worker.”

He also explained that the federation had expressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Domestic Workers in the Public Authority for Manpower for many years, the importance of concluding joint cooperation agreements in the field of domestic workers with a larger number of exporting countries, so that “we do not fall into such crises that harm the interest of the citizen and incur more losses for office owners.”
