2.43 million expats from 174 countries work in Kuwait

Data issued by the Central Administration of Statistics show 2.43 million expatriates, male and female, from 174 countries were working in Kuwait by the end of June 2023, including domestic workers, whose number increased during the first 6 months of 2023  compared to their number at the end of December 2022, which was 2.34 million male and female workers.

The total employment in the local labor market, including citizens and domestic workers, increased during the first 6 months of 2023 by about 86,800 of both sexes, bringing their total number at the end of last June to about 2.877 million workers, compared to 2.79 million at the end of December 2022, reports Al-Anba daily.

The data showed that India came in first place for the total number of workers in Kuwait and accounted for 30.2% of the workforce in the local market with 869.82 thousand workers at the end of June 2023, an increase of 35,140 compared to their number at the end of December 2022, which was 834,670.

Egypt came in second place with 483,450 workers at the end of June 2023, a decrease of 808 workers compared to their numbers at the end of December 2022, when it then was 484,250.

Kuwait ranked third as their numbers at the end of June 2023 reached about 447,060 in the private sector, an increase of 4,417 citizens compared to their numbers at the end of December 2022 which was 442,640.

The Philippines came in fourth place with about 269,480 at the end of December 2023, an increase of 2,568 at the end of December 2022, when it was about 266,910 workers.

Bangladesh ranked fifth with 248,920 workers at the end of June 2023, an increase of 7,597, compared to the end of December 2022, when it reached 241,330.

The latest labor market data showed that the total employment in Kuwait other than domestic workers increased by 52 thousand citizens and expatriates during the first 6 months of 2023, as their numbers reached about 2.088 million at the end of June 2023, compared to 2.036 million at the end of December 2022.

Data revealed that the number of domestic workers in Kuwait witnessed an increase by about 34,850 workers during the first 6 months of 2023, as their total numbers at the end of June 2023 reached about 788,150 workers, compared to 753,290 at the end of December 2022, with Indians topping the list with 350,850 workers at the end of June 2023 and the Filipinos coming in second place with about 201,400 workers; in third place came the Sri Lankan community, which accounts for 102,120 workers in the family sector and in fourth place are the Bangladeshis with 81,650 workers.

The average salary of Kuwaiti citizens increased during the first 6 months of 2023 to reach 1,557 dinars per month, compared to an average salary of 1,493 dinars at the end of December 2022.

The data revealed that the average salaries of expatriates rose to 343 dinars per month by the end of June 2023, compared to about 338 dinars per month by the end of December 2022.
