Kuwait deports Lebanese TV host Sazdel for violating social decency norms

A Lebanese TV presenter Sazdel, who has been living in Kuwait for 10 years was deported from the country for posting online video clips and pictures which were deemed immoral and in violation of the public morality law, a local daily reported. The Interior Ministry noted it was in the public interest to deport her from the country.

Sazdel went through the deportation procedures before being compelled to leave on a ticket on a Beirut-bound flight, Al Qabas said, citing security sources.

Sazdel, 42, said she would return to Kuwait despite the deportation order as she is married to a Kuwaiti, Al Rai daily reported. She said, “What happened to me and the Interior Ministry’s deportation decision will evaporate once I show a contract of my marriage to a Kuwaiti. He is now travelling abroad. When he returns, I’ll show it [the contract] and return to Kuwait because my husband is a Kuwaiti and they have no right to deport me.”

Regarding the details of her arrest, she stated, “All I know is that I previously signed a pledge not to wear tight clothes and take photographs on Snapchat. After that, an employee at the Ministry of Interior called me last Thursday, informing me I had to be present, then he called me again on Friday, and requested my presence. I went with my lawyer to quickly conclude the matter. ”

The daily reported, she added, “However, I was surprised when I arrived that they arrested me, stamped me and took me into custody.”

“They did not allow the embassy representative to meet me under the pretext that I went to see the director, and in fact I did not see any director … After that I was deported,” she lamented.
