Kuwait bay to open for amateur fishermen

The Deputy Director-General of the Environment Public Authority for Technical Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Zaidan, announced that the authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries, is mulling over a system that allows the reopening of Kuwait Bay to amateur fishing early next year, reports Alanba daily.

This step comes 5 years after the ban on recreational fishing due to environmental pressures and the decrease in fish stocks, as Al-Zaidan confirmed that the fishing would be opened in a standardized manner in order to preserve the fish wealth as well as a way for fishing enthusiasts to practice their hobby.

Al-Zaidan said in a statement to the daily that since last October, there had been several meetings between “the environment”, “agriculture” and “the interior” to find the best ways and put in place a mechanism to organize the process of opening the cabin in a manner that ensures the facilitation of the work of these bodies, especially with regard to marine control and limiting Trespass and poaching.
