Kuwait Basketball Association suspends League matches

The President of the Kuwait Basketball Association, Rashid Al-Enezi, announced the suspension of all competitions organized by the association, starting today, until coordination is made with the Ministry of Health to ensure a standby ambulance is available at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Halls Complex, during matches.

Al-Enezi said in a statement, yesterday evening, that the safety of the players is the priority and is more important than anything, noting that what happened in the match between the Kuwait and Jahra clubs last Wednesday during the fifth round of the Premier League, is outside the control of the association, after game was stopped twice for about 40 minutes waiting for the ambulance to arrive to take injured players to the hospital.

Al-Enezi explained that the association has sent an official letter to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health demanding an ambulance should be at the complex during all basketball matches and since the ministry did not respond to its request it was decided to stop the activities until further notice.

He pointed out that he requested a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in order to explain the importance of an ambulance during the matches, and to obtain his approval and instruct the competent authorities in this regard, before taking a decision to resume the competitions.

Al-Enezi has called on the Public Authority for Sports, headed by Hammoud Fleiteh, and the President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahd Al-Nasser, to intervene and solve the problem.
