KOC tender likely to be floated either late this year or early 2024

The Kuwait Oil Company tender related to a project to expand two stations to drain wastewater for the oil and gas sector in Kuwait which had been postponed 2022 and then to early 2023 is now likely to be floated either late this year or early 2024, as the recent resignation of the cabinet has affected the timetables for most projects.

Sources told the MEED magazine that over the recent years, political instability has greatly affected the country’s ability to approve major infrastructure projects, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In 2022, MEED reported that the budget had been approved for the project, which included the expansion of existing facilities known as EWDP-1 and EWDP-2.

EWDP-1 is located about 20 km south of downtown Kuwait City and EWDP-2 about 40 km south of the capital.

In December 2021, MEED reported that front-end engineering and project “feed” design had been completed. The disposal of petroleum-produced water has been a concern of the Kuwait Oil Company for at least two decades.

The Burgan Oil Field, the second largest oil field in the world, has witnessed successive increases in the water content of the oil it produces. Much of the wastewater is disposed of using dedicated injection wells.
