Kindergarten, primary classes to be suspended indefinitely

The Ministry of Education (MoE) is said to be considering a plan to close all kindergartens and primary classes for an unspecified period, if the current closure of schools extends beyond a month.

The reasoning behind closing lower classes for an indefinite period is that, if schools are closed beyond a month then it would be reopen only during summer and hot weather which would make it difficult for tiny tots to attend classes. Results of the first semester will be taken and approved for the second semester.

Also, in view of the number of schools days that are likely to be lost as a result of the closure of schools, the MoE is said to be considering reducing the curricula of intermediate and secondary levels of education, especially in subjects such as music, physical training and art education, so as to find more time for other subjects.

The Ministry of Education had earlier announced the suspension of activities, events, lectures, and seminars in all public and private schools.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that there is no official ministerial decision preventing teachers and supervisors suspected to be infected with coronavirus from reporting for work until they are certified virus-free or upon completion of quarantine period. A source explained preventive measures were done through individual efforts in different educational districts.
