Iraq leaders mourn demise of Kuwait Amir

Iraqi President Barham Saleh Tuesday mourned His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. “It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a big brother and leader was keen on the peoples of the region. We knew him for his humanity and his keenness on solid Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations,” National Iraq News Agency quoted Saleh as saying on Twitter page. “He worked tirelessly to reach agreement and leave disagreement, so that he became an example of peace and goodness. Our condolences to our people in brother Kuwait,” he added.

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhemi, mourned the death of His Highness the Amir. In a statement Al-Kadhemi said, “We have received the news of the death of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the brotherly State of Kuwait.” He added, “with his death, the entire nation and region lost a man who spared no effort to support regional security and stability, and to ensure the well-being and progress of the brotherly people of Kuwait and the neighbouring peoples.

He continued that the late Amir contributed to strengthening the march of the new Iraq, emerging from the yoke of dictatorship, just as he stood with him while facing terrorism and winning its land and existence. For his part, Speaker of Iraqi Parliament, Mohammad Al-Halbousi, has condoled the death of His Highness the Amir. Al-Halbousi said on his Twitter account, “We received the news of the death of the Amir and the father, the Sheikh, the leader, and the head of Arab wisdom, whom we have known as a generous, political, seasoned, and honest counsellor.

“With his death we have lost a supporter of Iraq, a lover of the Iraqis, and a supporter of Arab and Muslim causes,” he added. The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, morns His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad.

In a cable of condolence, Barzani expressed sadness and sorrow of Kuwait Amir’s loss who weaved good and close relations with the Kurdistan region, devoted most of his life to serving his country, his people and his nation, and spared no effort for the sake of peace and prosperity in the region. Barzani in the cable also offered sincere condolences and sympathy to the Royal family and to all Kuwaiti people, praying to Allah the Almighty to bless his soul.
