As Indonesia marks its 77th Independence Anniversary, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with the International Women’s Group organized an Indonesian Cultural Day on Tuesday, November 8th, with the theme “The Beauty of Minangkabau”.
The members of International Women’s Group, the Indonesian Embassy Staff’s Spouses and many other honorary guests graced the event with their presence.
The event was also attended by Indonesian women with prestigious positions like, Madam Emma Yohana, the Indonesian Senator from West Sumatera Province, Dr. Netty Prasetiyani from the Indonesian Parliament, and Madam Sukma Violetta from the Indonesian Judicial Commission.
Mrs. Ghada Shawky, President of the International Women’s Group and wife of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, extended her gratitude to H.E Lena Maryana for inviting her to celebrate this prestigious occasion.
She then praised the magnificent beauty of Indonesia, for its diverse culture, its hospitable and kind people, as well for its delicious cuisine.
The event was in collaboration with one of the provinces in Indonesia, with the theme to honor the Minangkabau tribe that refers to the indigenous people of the highlands of West Sumatra.
Many cultural performances showcased Indonesian heritage including the traditional dance forms that exhibited the Indang and Pasambahan (offering) dance.
A wide range of Indonesian cuisines was also served which included chicken satay with peanut sauce, gado-gado (steam vegetables mixed with peanut sauce) and martabak (Indonesian pancake).
The event was then concluded with Mrs. Ghada Shawky presenting an honorary shield to H.E Lena Maryana on behalf of the IWG to appreciate the organization of the event.
