India registers 89 fresh COVID-19 deaths, 3,561 infections

Indian health authorities announced on Thursday that COVID-19 has claimed 89 lives and infected 3,561 others in the last 24 hours.

Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its morning update that with 89 fresh deaths, COVID-19 has so far claimed 1,783 lives in the country while the number of infections soared to 52,952 cases as 3,561 fresh positive cases were reported.

So far, 15,267 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered.

Maharashtra is heading other states as the worst with 651 deaths and 16,758 positive cases followed by Gujarat with 396 deaths and 6,625 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states.

India is in its third phase of lockdown in which various regions have been divided into red, orange and green zones taking into account the severity of the infection.

Areas not affected by the coronavirus will enjoy some relaxation while there are several restrictions that would be strictly implemented across the nation.
