Indian health authorities said on Wednesday that 582 people succumbed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours taking the death toll in the country to24,309.
The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update that29,429 fresh COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours as the total number of infections jumped to 936,181 cases.
The ministry added that so far 592,032 people have recovered from the pandemic as the country is grappling to handle the spread of virus to more areas.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Assam and Bihar are among the worst affected Indian states.
The government has asked people, governments and local authorities to take all necessary precautions as the nation entered into the second phase of unlocking, adding guidelines in the containment zones should be followed strictly.
