The Government of India has announced a state-mourning on 4 October, in a mark of respect to the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
A statement by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs said Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, passed away on September 29. “As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be a one-day state mourning on 4 October, throughout India.”
The statement added that the national flag will be flown at half mast on all buildings throughout India where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.
Indians comprise the largest expat community in Kuwait and the two countries share an excellent age-old relationship that has blossomed over time.
The late Amir shared a special relationship with India, having visited the country on several occasions, including making one of his first official overseas visit after becoming the Amir to India in 2006. His last visit to India on a personal level was in 2017.
